Theme settings

In addition to being mobile friendly, the Vintage theme for Spiffy Stores offers a wide array of features that allow you get the most out of your store. Everything from a range of styles, typography, social media integration, and layout can be adjusted with ease from the “Theme Settings” section in your store’s Toolbox. Below you will find an outline of the current theme settings.

Built-in styles & typefaces

The vintage theme comes in 5 different styles, and also has a choice of 15 different heading typefaces. That’s not it though… you can also modify the colour schemes for each style easily by editing your theme’s CSS. You can find out more about how to do this here »

Store header, logo and menus

Quite simple really… you can upload your own logo to appear in your store’s header. The difficult thing is getting your logo to look great. This is best done by uploading a transparent PNG file of your logo. If you don’t know how to create one, we’ve got a tutorial here for you.

You can also email your logo to us at support@spiffystores.com.au and ask us to do this for you. In most cases we’ll do this free of charge.

In this section, you can also select the menu that you want to appear at the top of your store. Your store’s menus can be edited in the “Store menus” section of your store’s Toolbox. This menu supports drop-down menus, just like this demo store. We’ve got a tutorial on creating your drop-down menus here.

Home page slideshow

Your store’s slideshow can have up to 5 images, each with a caption that overlays the image. You can also add a different link to each individual slide in the slideshow.

The images you upload should be 960px wide x 400px high so that they’re not stretched and awful looking. You can create your images by resizing or cropping them in your favourite photo editing software, but we also have a tutorial on creating your slideshow images here.

Product pages

Collection menus

The Vintage theme allows you to create pages (or collection pages) that list your store’s categories. To do this, you create a menu with the same “handle” as your page and add links to the collections you want to feature. Each of the links can also display a slideshow of the first 5 products in your collection, or can display the image you have specified for that collection in the “Collections” section of your store’s Toolbox.

In this demo store, the “Aromatherapy” page displays the collections that have been added to a menu also called “Aromatherapy”.

A “handle” is the way that we refer to all of the different data that makes up your store. If you edit a collection or page, you can also edit it’s handle. Just like collections and pages, menus also have handles.

To test this out in your store, create a page called “My Test”. It should have the handle “my-test” by default. Now create a new menu called “My Test”, and add some collections to it. When you preview the page, you will see that the collections in your menu will appear beautifully laid out.

Blogs with built-in social media and Facebook comments

Increase your social engagement by allowing your visitors to post comments on your blog articles. If you have a Facebook account, enter your user ID (the email address you use to log in to Facebook).

If you don’t have a Facebook account, go to http://www.facebook.com to sign up.

A Facebook App ID isn’t essential, but we recommend that you get one so that you’re able to moderate comments… so that visitors can’t post SPAM or negative comments. You can get an App ID for your store at http://developers.facebook.com/setup/.

The comments moderation area provided by Facebook is at http://developers.facebook.com/tools/comments. You may want to bookmark that page once you’ve got it all set up.
